Johnson was born in Temple Terrace, Florida on September 26, 1969 and lived there until he went to college. He studied piano at an early age, learned to play guitar at the age of 15, and sang in several choirs throughout his youth.
Johnson graduated from Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he was a popular singer at many campus events. After college, he attended Full Sail Center for the Recording Arts and studied audio engineering.
Since that time, he has spent some years in Atlanta, where he has acquired a loyal following. He has performed at many venues, including Eddie's Attic, the Red Light Café, and the Freightroom. He has also been a regular performer at the Inman Park Spring Festival and the Candler Park Music and Arts Festival. Johnson enjoyed a short stint playing keyboards for the popular Athens Dead cover band, Cosmic Charlie.
In 1999, Johnson self-produced and recorded his first CD, Tangled, which received an enthusiastic response. He sang and accompanied himself on a variety of instruments, as well as doing all the engineering and providing the cover photography. Many of the songs have a haunting quality. His latest CD, Parsonage Lane, has been professionally produced and has songs in a variety of styles. As on the first CD, all of the songs are Johnson's original compositions.
Besides performing, Johnson enjoys hiking in the mountains, playing Scrabble, watching The Simpsons, and just generally enjoying life. As he says in his song, Real World, "Go outside, take your baby on a ride, Cause you know, life is for living."
